#MSPLife: Fall Semester Highlights

Fall semester at MSP was rich with activity and opportunities for meaningful action.  From food-filled community building to campus wide community service projects, #MSPLife on campus has a lot to offer.

Here are just a few of the highlights:

September

Students enjoy food together at the Fall Fest BBQ. (Special thanks to Grill Master, Jeff Cross)

Fall Festival (9/11-9/15) kicked off the academic year with fall food treats and community building activities.

As part of the 2017/18 Student Engagement theme of “Self Care,” President Diane Blau presented “The Joys and Challenges of Therapeutic Work” at a Brown Bag lunch event.

Admissions staff hosted three PsyD Application Information Sessions (9/26, 28, 29) for our current MA students.

The Psi Chi Chapter at MSP hosted their first meeting on 9/28 to induct new officers and plan for the year.

The Fall Open House (10/2) and the Psychology Graduate School Virtual Fair (10/4) both presented opportunities for prospective students to meet with Admissions staff and find out more about our programs.

John Brennan, JD, PsyD presented the Continuing Education (CE) Workshop “Psychology, Ethics & the Law”  on 10/11.

Psi Chi held a fundraising Bake Sale (10/16-10/20) and hosted the popular Game Day event on 10/20.

Fran Brown, PsyD, Program Director MA & PsyD Programs, presented “Cherish Your Mistakes: Facing Your Fears” as part of Student Engagement’s “Self Care” series on 10/26.

Admissions offered a PsyD Sample Class for prospective students for an authentic MSP classroom experience on 10/30.


November

The Atrium was full for a screening of Darnell Walker’s “Outside the House: Black Mental Health Matters.”

On 11/1 Admissions hosted a MA Sample Class for prospective students.

Ronda Diegel, PhD, Adjunct Faculty member, presented two 30 minute “Combating Stress” meditation sessions (11/9 & 11/17).

MSP hosted a packed screening of Darnell Walker’s powerful documentary “Outside the House: Black Mental Health Matters” followed by a expert panel discussion on 11/10.

MSP students, faculty, and staff were invited to attend a free Consent Training hosted by HAVEN on 11/14.

Dr. Diegel presented the CE Workshop “Cultivating Mindful Self-Compassion” on 11/15 and hosted Metta Yoga in support of Equality Michigan on 11/18.

IDEA (The Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Alliance) began the “Adopt-a-Family” Holiday Donation drive on 11/20.

IDEA continued collecting items from the Holiday Donation drive wish list until 12/8.

Student Engagement hosted Finals Week Stress Relief (12/4 to 12/8) with freshly made pancakes and words of encouragement for our amazing students.
