What made you decide to pursue a degree in psychology?

I’m generally fascinated by how people make decisions and choose to live their lives.  I also find myself interested in issues of social justice and diversity and value being useful to others.  Being able to be part of a learning community at MSP where my “geek” side can thrive as well as being able to continue seeing clients in private practice allows me to live my values.  Psychology is the perfect blend of my interests and values.

What do you think led you to teach at MSP?

I chose to join the MSP team because of my interest in mentoring graduate students and the opportunities that exist at the school.  I enjoy collaborating with students in my research team, teaching and training future psychologists, and being part of a committed and collegial faculty.

What’s your favorite part of teaching?

Class discussions.  I like to hear what students are thinking!

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I think my tendency to be a pretty open person results in others rarely being surprised.

What’s your favorite kind of music?

That really depends on what I’m doing!  I like classical or easy listening when I’m grading, country, reggae, pop, or rock when I’m hanging out around the house (depends on what I’m doing and how I’m feeling), and techno or classical when I’m writing.

What do you do in your free time?

I like to play disc golf; visit my family, friends and fraternity brothers; check out new restaurants with my partner; read a good book; or go for a run around my neighborhood.
