This time last year, MSP had an Honor Society. The goal was to transform into a Psi Chi Chapter but there was a lot of work to be done in order for that to happen. Thanks to the Executive Board of the MSP Honor Society, the Psi Chi Chapter of MSP was installed on February 25, 2015. As the academic year comes to a close, the current executive board of Psi Chi at MSP looks back at what this past year has meant to them.

As President of Psi Chi @ MSP, I gained new experience in several areas. I learned about event coordination and parliamentary procedures. I enjoyed being a liaison between Psi Chi and the faculty and students. I got a lot of practice in public speaking. The most valuable aspect for me was working collaboratively with the EC, general members, and faculty/staff supervisors. This opportunity helped me further establish my boundaries and appreciate the importance of delegating tasks. I no longer think/feel/want/desire to do it all. I am proud to have been part of developing this chapter.

As the Vice President, I had the privilege of interacting with all members of the MSP chapter of Psi Chi as well as some members of the international society at the Midwest Psychological Association Conference in March. From installing the chapter to our first symposium, I worked behind the scenes making all the events happen smoothly. Through this, I was able to utilize and refine leadership skills which I will use in future projects and organizations. I am grateful to Psi Chi members for electing me to the VP post where I was able to make a difference in the organization for years to come.

I honestly did not know what to expect when I was first elected to the position of Secretary for the MSP Honor Society. Nor did I realize the amount of work that my colleagues and I would have to accomplish in order for our school to successfully transition to Psi Chi. However, the experience of being a part of something as rewarding as Psi Chi is something that I will never forget. As Secretary, my position allowed me to be “behind the scenes” and gain an understanding of what it means to create and maintain a society that helps breed excellence for those who are a part of it. Were it not for the wonderful, supportive, and caring thoughts of my colleagues, staff, and professors at MSP, I do not think I could have accomplished as much as I have. Thank you to everyone who made this year a success. I look forward to cementing a legacy at MSP that will be felt for years to come.
