Dr. Miriam Engstrom, PsyD, LLP, LLC, completed her doctoral degree at MiSPP in 2008.  After completing her degree at MiSPP, she moved to Ukraine and later Turkey. Dr. Engstrom has created and facilitated experiential and didactic trainings in both psychology and theatre and has worked as a professional, award-winning actress in the Detroit theatre community for nearly 20 years.

She is trained in a number of therapies, including humanistic, cognitive behavioral, and client centered treatment, and has additional training in play therapy, bipolar disorders, substance abuse, crisis intervention, and EMDR for the treatment of trauma and PTSD.

Dr. Engstrom produced The Women4Women Project, a theatrical fundraising event featuring an international cast of women that addresses issues women face globally, including workplace inequality, domestic violence, media-induced beauty standards, human trafficking, and child brides when she was living in Turkey.

She provided weekly group counseling, community building projects, and free tutoring to Iraqi, Afghan and Iranian refugee women during her time in Kirikkale, Turkey. 

In addition, Dr. Engstrom co-established Refugees Online Learning English (ROLE), a program for refugees to practice English on Skype with volunteers.

Dr. Engstrom is a recipient of the 2016 AAFSW Secretary of State Award for Outstanding Volunteerism Abroad, awarded by then Secretary John Kerry for her work with refugees in Turkey. She has recently returned to Michigan after living abroad for 6 years and is currently in private practice in Clinton Township and Grosse Pointe.
