Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

The library’s interlibary loan (ILL) service is used to obtain articles, books, and other materials not available at the Moustakas Johnson Library. ILL staff locate these materials in other libraries and borrow or obtain photocopies on behalf of MiSPP users. ILL staff tries to request items from libraries that do not charge lending fees, but sometimes there are some costs for borrowing materials. You will always be contacted by library staff if there are lending charges before a request is placed on your behalf.

When placing an ILL request, please be aware that we are sometimes unable to borrow:

  • Reference books
  • Psychological testing kits
  • Very old, rare, or fragile books
  • Very new books
  • Very recent periodicals
  • Audiovisual items
  • Computer software
  • Manuscripts
  • Textbooks
  • Theses/dissertations

The time it takes for ILL material to arrive varies. Requests can sometimes be filled in a few working days, while other more involved requests can take several weeks.

Request materials

You may use this form or e-mail a request directly from the library’s electronic databases. Please note that only current MiSPP students, faculty, and staff may request interlibrary loan items through this form. Others may make interlibrary loan requests for items in the Moustakas Johnson Library collection through their home library.

When your material arrives

You will receive an e-mail when your item arrives. Electronic copies of articles will be sent as an e-mail attachment. Books and other borrowed materials will be held at the circulation desk for you to pick up.

Loan periods and renewals

Loan periods are set by the lending library. Renewal requests should be submitted to the library staff at least two days in advance of the due date. We cannot guarantee items will be renewed.

Lending libraries determine conditions regarding the use of their materials, and any restrictions must be honored.
