Treating Addictions Through a Trauma-Informed Perspective

Participants will review and increase competency of the trauma informed care literature in order to apply it to the assessment and treatment of a variety of addictive behaviors, including sex, substance use, gambling, food, etc.

By the end of the training participants will be able to: 

  1.  Review trauma-informed care literature and outcomes.    
  2.  Identify how trauma manifests in addictive behaviors.      
  3.  Identify and implement meaningful interventions and treatment goals to impact change through demonstrated competency.

Approved by MCBAP for 3 contact hours specific to substance abuse.

Dr. Toni Crocilla is a licensed psychologist holding degrees in forensic and clinical psychology. Her primary practice involves providing services to juveniles and adults involved in the criminal justice system (i.e., jail, prison, and community-based treatment programs), including those with sex offenses, violent offenses, and addiction-related offenses. Dr. Crocilla advocates for the humane and humanistic treatment of individuals within the criminal justice system.
